UPVC Fascias and Soffits in Birmingham

The fascias, soffits and bargeboards are the strip of board that runs along the edge of your roof, where the gutters fix and the rafter feet are protected from the weather. On thousands of Birmingham homes these are still the original painted timber, and timber on a north-facing or shaded elevation does not last. The paint flakes, water gets behind it, the board softens and before long the rot reaches the rafter ends, which is a far bigger and more expensive problem than the board itself.

Why homeowners switch to UPVC

Replacing tired timber with UPVC ends the cycle for good. The boards are UV-stable and colour-fast, they never need sanding, filling or repainting, and they will not rot or feed insects. The difference to the front of the house is immediate, and because the roofline is the first thing a buyer's eye runs along, fresh white or anthracite boards lift the whole property's appearance at modest cost.

Strip out and replace, not cap over

This is where the standard of work really shows. Some installers simply screw new UPVC over the existing rotten timber to save a day's labour, which traps the decay and the damp underneath. We do not work that way. We strip every board back, treat and check the rafter feet, replace any that have gone soft, then fit the new fascia, soffit and bargeboard onto sound timber. It is the only way to be sure the rot is actually dealt with rather than hidden.

Ventilation that protects the roof

A sealed roofline traps warm, moist air in the loft, and that condensation rots timbers and ruins insulation over time. As we fit the new boards we build in continuous over-fascia ventilation and add eaves protection trays that carry rainwater off the felt and into the gutter rather than letting it pond behind. The result is a roofline that looks smart and quietly keeps the roof above it healthier.

Catch it before the rafters go

The reason we push people to look at flaking, soft or green-tinged boards sooner rather than later is cost. Replacing fascias and soffits is a relatively quick, contained job. Replacing rafter ends that have rotted because failing boards let water sit against them is a different matter, because it means cutting back and splicing in new structural timber, which is slower and dearer. The longer wet, rotten roofline timber is left, the more of the roof structure behind it gets drawn into the repair. Sorting the boards while the rot is still in the boards keeps it a small job.

Colour-matched, guaranteed and tidy

We stock white, black, brown, anthracite grey and realistic woodgrain foils so the boards coordinate with your windows and doors. Most three-bed semis are completed in one to two days, and many customers have their gutters and downpipes renewed in the same visit for a fully sealed roofline. Old timber is removed and disposed of, the site is left spotless, and you get a 20-year manufacturer colour-fast warranty alongside our 10-year workmanship guarantee. We are NFRC, TrustMark and Guild of Master Craftsmen accredited.
