Re-roofing a terrace the right way

The bay-fronted terraces around Erdington High Street and the Abbey were nearly all built with natural slate. After a century the slate nails corrode and the slate itself delaminates, and patch repairs stop being worth the money. A full re-roof strips it back, sorts the structure and relays a covering that will see out another lifetime. Because the valleys and stacks are shared with the houses either side, we plan the work so the boundary detailing is watertight on both sides.

Living through a terrace re-roof

A terraced re-roof means scaffolding at the front and often the back too, on a street where parking is already tight. We plan the job so the work moves along steadily and the roof is never left open to the weather overnight, and we keep the muck and old slate off the pavement and out of your neighbours' way. On a mid-terrace we can usually complete the strip and recover inside a working week, weather permitting, and we let you know the schedule up front so you can plan around it.

Make the most of the access

While the scaffold is up is the sensible time to deal with the chimney stack and the lead valleys, because doing it later means paying for access twice. We will point that out when we quote rather than leaving you to find out the hard way.
